Artist statement

Henri Blommers is a visual artist who combines analog techniques for projects on topics such as biodiversity loss, sea level rise, and the impact of plastic on nature. He mimics these processes by boiling, scratching, spraying, and cutting his materials. With visual poetry, he entices the viewer to reflect on his themes.

He works sustainably with plants from his garden and shares his knowledge at festivals through lectures and workshops. His recent project on salinization was on display at Bucharest Fotofest, where he also spoke about ecology and gave a workshop on cyanotypes and lumen prints combined with chemigrams. At the Experimental Fotofestival in Barcelona, he and two other pioneers in this field explored sustainability in photography and what photographers need.

His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. In 2023, he was a finalist at the Lensculture Art Awards, and in 2022, he won the Denis Roussel Award. His project ‘Salting the Earth’ was a finalist at Critical Mass in 2024.
